Will Wight started writing about the competition between the Monarchs a long time ago. At the start, it looked that the series would not move on for so long but the author has proved here that he had a lot of things in mind related to this concept since the beginning. One competition and then the next to have kept on decorating the different parts of this book. After each competition, some of the Monarchs lose the game and are thrown out of the tournament. In the end, only one will survive and he will be crowned as the new king of the land. Becoming the king at this point might not be a joyful thing because Dreadgod is trying to emerge on the surface world once again and if he is successful then it is bad news for the new king.
The newly crowned king would be the first target of the Dreadgod after emerging on the surface. Also, it depends that whether the villain comes to the surface at the end of the competition or he emerges during the competition. Thus in a nutshell two types of competitions are going on since Soulsmith and Unsouled. Chances of survival are very dim for all the heroes who have taken part in the competition but for the sake of the big prize they are ready to do anything. [Wintersteel Audiobook].
The narration has been handled by Travis Baldree throughout the series and now his voice has become a permanent part of the series. For all the characters Travis has the exact voice and style in stock which the audience likes so much. [Wintersteel Audiobook].
