Octavia E. Butler amazed millions after presenting books with magic in every line. Previously the books which made the author hailed as a legend were Parable of the Sower and Kindred. This next move in fantasy world has made Octavia a legend for sure. Doro i.e the primary character of the novel is a being that has lived for thousands of years and only he knows this secret. No other soul in the world has ever shared this secret with Doro.

In an African village where Doro has been living for ages, he successfully steals the bodies of the people when the body in his possession grows old. This is a way in which he lives among them all the time without being noticed. With the passing years, Doro has become skilled in this art and he plans to continue this experiment for another thousand years.

Doro remained so much busy in his experimentations that he never prepared for an attack from the outside world. A sudden attack from the outside world destroys his village and all his research. With no other hope for survival, Doro runs towards the forest and there he finds another woman who is like him. Anyanwu is also hundreds of years old but she does not steal bodies rather her method works with a single kiss.

The woman does not like Doro and his technique but they have to stick together as the enemy is after both of them now. They can survive only if they work together this time otherwise their long lifetime on the planet will come to an end. Robin Miles has narrated Doro and Anyanwu at the same time which makes it difficult to understand who is talking at which stage. Clarity helps in such moments to differentiate the dialogues.
