The Wallflower Wager

The Wallflower Wager is a regency romance and historical romance novel written by Tessa Dare. This book is about the Duke of Ruin, who is just the best next door for an undaunted wallflower. It is a part of the Girl Meets Duke series. It is preceded by The Governess Game. Tessa is a USA Today and NYT bestselling author of more than twenty historical romance books. She has received the Romance Writers of America’s prestigious RITA award twice among other honors and distinctions. She has been referred to as one of the “new stars of historical romance” by Booklist magazine. If you’re interested in more from her, check out The Duchess Deal.

The narration by Mary Jane Wells is almost, if not perfect. She delivered a charming performance that increased the enjoyment of the novel on many levels.

Gabriel Duke had clawed his way from the lousiest of slums to the top of the high society. He was wealthy and ruthless and had decided to get even.

Lady Penelope Campion was a loving and passionate woman. She never met a wounded or lost creature that she wouldn’t take in her home and heart. When her imposing neighbor demanded that she get rid of her rescued animals, Penny wasn’t one to budge under pressure.

Penny challenged him to find a home for them, on that condition, she would part with her animals. Gabriel scoffed at the idea and thought how hard could it be to find them homes. He agreed, but Penny had decided she would save yet another soul, Gabriel’s.

This is a delightful book with a unique adventure. It is fun, sexy, and filled with awesome banter and back-and-forth. This beauty and the beast trope is brilliantly executed and maybe one of the best stories by the author.
