John MacKimmie was en route to Paris for taking up her vocation in the capacity of a nun. Still, her decision was thought to be quite less than a matter of faith as compared with fear. Joan was plagued by some mysterious voices that spoke all about the future, and also by the visions that point out the ones who were about to die. The sanctuary of the nunnery promised some great respite from those unexpected and unwanted visitations or that was what she used to pray. Michael Murray was her chaperone who was a young widower. Though he was still mourning the death of his wife, he discovered himself forcefully drawn toward his charge.
But when Comte St. Germain, a time traveler learned about the presence of Joan in Paris then Murray was pulled into a battle. The stakes were pretty high.
The author was criticized for writing this book between chapter 7 and chapter 8 as a filler only. But it turned out to be a really good addition to the series as you will get to know the characters of Clare and Jaime more closely.
