Alex Wyndham has delivered an exceptional performance as the narrator of this audiobook. He can subtly change his voice to accommodate the portrayal of different characters. It doesn’t get better than Alex when it comes to narrating historical fiction books.
The Marquis of Amberley’s coach is ambushed by highwaymen and his coachman is shot. Under these circumstances, he is forced to take shelter at the first house he is welcomed in. He gets trapped there because of a severe snowstorm.
Oakleigh Manor is home to Rosalind Vernon. She lives alone beside her servants and parrot. She is cut from the outside world as a result of a tragic accident. However, Rosalind doesn’t wallow in self-pity; she is quite brave and headstrong. And these are the qualities that make Amberley fall in love with her.
Amberley tries to convince her brother Philip to bring her to town for a taste of society. Even though Rosalind appears to be falling for the suave gentleman, it isn’t all smooth sailings for him.
The novel tells us a sweet story sprinkled with humor and delight. The complex plot, intricate characters, tear-jerk romance, and a great narration experience make this audiobook well worth the time.
