The Outcast Dead is narrated by Toby Longworth. There were phases where Toby’s voice became more of a whisper and it was hardly audible. That was annoying for the listeners. Apart from this issue, the rest of the performance was fine by the narrator. The Great Crusade which took mankind right into the stars continues here in The Outcast Dead with full throttle. The Emperor of Mankind handed over all the reins of command to the most desirable and favored son. He was none other than the Warmaster Horus. Still, all was not well then within the forces of the Imperium.
Horus was still fighting hard against the resentment and jealousy of his beloved brother primarchs. When he got injured in the battle on the Davin planet then he must look to fight against his inner daemon. Will it ever be possible for the much weakened Horus to show any resistance, especially with all of the lures that the Chaos has got to offer?
The pacing of the book is a bit slow, especially in the first half, but it does pick up beautifully. This is a novel which you would love to try more than once.
