Homicide detective Harry Bosch thinks that he has seen worse in his life. There have been circumstances in his life when he didn’t have the hope to survive but he still survived. Now he thinks that he has accomplished enough in life and has seen enough troubles so getting terrified is not on the list. Well, he is proved wrong when a dead body is found in the drainpipe at Mullholland.
The dead body and the case of murder are like a usual routine for Harry because this is what he does on daily basis. When Harry looks at the body suddenly everything changes for him because the body was with a familiar face. The one who was murdered in such a way was an old friend of Harry Bosch.
The two of them performed a number of operations together in Vietnam and now that man was dead, his body was in front of Harry in a bad state. Harry knows that whoever murdered his friend was after something big and the killer is still out there to complete his mission. Michael Connelly has made this mission appear personal in the initial portion of the book and then it gets bigger and becomes global.
Titus Welliver’s narration will cheer you up because the story is interesting and the action is fantastic. Desert Star and City of Bones were not with personal missions so there is a difference in that regard otherwise the chase is on for the hero. Only this time there is a surprise waiting for him on the other side for which he is not mentally ready.
