Mother and father are like a gift from the heavens for all of us because these two people love us more than anyone else in the world. They not only nourish and protect us but also give us the feeling that we are special. For the girl in Amy Harmon’s novel, this is not the case because her parents have other objectives to fulfill instead of loving her wasting their time.
Her mother is not present with them anymore but before her death, she cursed her daughter heavily. According to the curse, the father will become the king after the death of the current ruler, well that is the good part and the bad part is that the girl cannot speak a word till then. The mother cursed her daughter which snatched her voice and turned her into something else.
The father just keeps her close to him because if she dies then her father will die too. So she is just a power source for her greedy father who hasn’t shown love to her all her life. In this enchanted world nothing goes in favor of the girl but still, Trina Nishimura has given her a melodious voice i.e a voice that is actually looking for love.
Enchanted like What the Wind Knows and Where the Lost Wander the novel is full of wonders. It shows how much the author has in her mind about the land of magic. A curse from one’s mother is something new because the love of parents is usually used to break the curse. Here the poor swallow is searching for her savior who could break the curse so that she would finally be able to speak.
