Dan Abnett’s fabulous series reaches its sixth part with this book and it is not a surprise because right from the first book, this series was bound to get this height. Gaunt’s Ghost series is the type of series that you will want to listen to more and more and no one wants to see the saga ending. If you have been listening to Traitor General and First and Only then there is no doubt that you would be crazy to listen to this story.
Toby Longworth’s well carved voice is used in the narration of this masterpiece and it surely deserved this type of narration. Ibram Gaunt is one of a kind fighting machine and he is apparently afraid of nothing in the world of flesh. He thought that he had the skill and power to outclass anyone and then he was thrown into a strange devilish place.
Along with his allies, Gaunt is trying to get out of this mess but it is apparently not possible because there are enemies on all sides and they aren’t visible. No one knows where the enemy comes from and all they see at the end is the dead body of their friend.
The way out presented to Gaunt is far deadlier but he is left with no other option. Thus he accepts this suicidal mission and from here on the real story starts. It is like walking towards destruction with no shield in hand. Initially, everyone thinks that Gaunt has made a mistake but actually he has an idea in his mind which can make them able to escape this hell like place.
