Luke is in search of the truth about Jacen and no one is providing him with the right answer. He has searched the galaxy and went to the monks as well but no one has guided him properly. Luke along with his son has decided to go to the Maw Cluster because there the Mind Walkers have the power to answer any question.

The monks warn Luke of the dangers that lie ahead of his destination. The place where he is trying to go is so powerful that it can consume a living being in it and then there is no door left for him to the outside world. The war of the Galactic Alliance and the Jedi Order has started and if something is not done quickly then more and more planets will get involved in it.

Valin is new in the Jedi Order and he wants to prove his worth in this war so that he can cross his competitor Jysella. Han and Leia are also present in this fight but the outside world is not threatening the Jedi Order this time as compared to the dangers that are arousing from the inside. Daala knows that the war can be won with proper tactics this time instead of a real tough fight on the battlefield.

Between all of this Luke and Ben finally, get closer to the Maw Cluster but they have to risk their lives to get to the enemy’s core and then destroy it. Troy Denning wrote HALO: Shadows of Reach and Last Light superbly and the skills are not used less in creating this highly dramatic book. After every chapter Marc Thompson kept on raising the pitch in narration, it was one way of conveying the audience that things are going more and more extreme.
