Shadow Spell

Shadow Spell is a romance novel written by Nora Roberts. It serves as the book #2 of The Cousins O’Dwyer Trilogy. This book comes as the tale of the family we have learned to love, the land that we cherish, and the people that we long to see. Roberts has other amazing books that should be considered e.g. Hideaway and The Becoming.

The narration has been performed by Alan Smyth. Unfortunately, there is nothing much that can be said about this performance in a positive light. There is a lack of flow. The accents are bad. The pauses are extremely distracting. The Irish women in the book don’t sound anything like Irish. Overall, it is just a bad narration. It does nothing to enhance the experience; on the contrary, it might be difficult to even finish this one.

Connor O’Dwyer has the blood of Irish legends and lore pulsing through him. He is lucky to call County Mayo home. This is where his family lives. This is where he found true love and also where his childhood friends are. Nothing can break this circle. Nothing except a long-awaited kiss will stretch this circle out of shape.

Connon’s path crosses regularly with Meara Quinn. She is his sister’s best friend. She has unattainable beauty, something that Connon has taken for granted. Plenty of women have been able to reach his bed, but not his heart. Until now, he falls for Meara. But something changes and then his past comes rolling back, threatening to destroy everything in its path.

Nora Roberts has written once again a unique story. Her characters are nice and there is decent plot development at a good pace. The only bad thing about this audiobook is the narration itself.
