The romance between two different species is always difficult to describe, the audience as a routine does not believe in such things at all. Erin Raegan had to work very hard for the depiction of this love story. Peyton was just an ordinary woman in the town who was having coffee with her best friend. The day was also not very different as compared to the other average days of the year and suddenly everything became history because the aliens took control over the human world.
The bat like creatures came and conquered the entire planet within no time. Those who tried to stand against the invasion were eaten up by the aliens after which the resistance just ended in smoke. Peyton never had any high hopes for her future and after this calamity, she thought that her dreams of a happy life have been buried forever.
Then Tahk saw this ordinary girl for the first time and fell in love with this weak human female. He became so much possessive about Peyton that he was ready to spare the planet for her sake. Peyton was told that the fate of the planet was in her hands so she sacrificed herself without a second thought. Christopher Boucher narrates how Peyton adjusts herself to that new situation and starts enjoying it as well.
Though it is not the same as Home World (An Alien War Romance) the theme and the style of writing have a lot in common for the listeners. It is the girl who adapts to the new circumstances as she sacrifices herself for the safety of mankind so Peyton could be taken as a much stronger character than the aliens.
