Moon Called

Moon Called is an urban fantasy novel written by Patricia Briggs. Patricia has been writing fantasy novels since 1993 and started a series by the name of Mercy Thompson in 2006 with this book being the first installment. She is a New York Times bestselling author with plenty of books to her credit. If you want to follow the series further, check out Blood Bound. Besides that, you can listen to Iron Kissed which is the third book in the series.

The narration of this book is done by Lorelei King. Since narration can make or break a good audiobook, it is of utmost importance to focus on it. The case with this one is that King was given an amazing performance.

Mercy Thompson is a “Walker” who refers to a Native American shapeshifter that can turn into a coyote. A Walker is not linked to the moon. This is a gift that she inherited from her father, who was a Blackfeet Indian while her mother – Margi – was a white teenager at the time. Her father died after he had consummated the relationship with Margi. He was a rodeo bull rider and was with Margi for just a few months before dying.

Mercy was found as a coyote one day by her mom as she was in the crib. She was later on raised by the pack of Bran. Her life was never normal. She had a werewolf neighbor. The Volkswagen bus that she is fixing belongs to a vampire. Nothing is going normal; but then, it is to be expected.

For all the people who enjoy a complex, smart, strong, and complicated female lead, this book is for them. It was humorous characters and is written with a great deal of sarcasm.
