Atlee Pine faced a horrible thing when she was a little child and she hasn’t been able to get out of those thoughts till the present day. A kidnapper came to their house and he randomly selected Atlee’s twin sister Mercy who was never found later on. Atlee remained scared for a long time or perhaps for decades because she knew that it could be her instead of her sister.
Later she got over her fears and trained herself for the service in the FBI. Grand Canyon is the area that comes under the control of Atlee Pine now and she assures that the people of the area remain out of danger all the time. An incident near the Grand Canyon brings Atlee to the scene and she is surprised to see that not only the tourist has been abducted but his mule is also stabbed to death in a hideous way.
Atlee starts following the clues and after a while, she gets a call from the office and the high officials want her off the case at once. She thought that she was coming closer to the criminal but the department threatens her that she will get fired if she continues with the case. Long Shadows and Memory Man are full of suspense but these books are lengthy.
David Baldacci has curtailed the length a little in this novel so that the fans don’t get tired. Atlee Pine is going on her own after the criminal on this occasion and there is a chance that she will lose everything in the process including her life. The hope to get the job done is the only thing that keeps Atlee strong in this episode narrated by Brittany Pressley and Kyf Brewer.
