Hopeless

Hopeless is a contemporary romance novel authored by Colleen Hoover. It serves as the first book of the Hopeless series. Colleen is a bestselling author whose novels have ranked high on New York Times bestselling lists. She has written eleven novels and five novellas, whereas her full-length novels have become New York Times bestsellers. If you’re interested in the series, check out the second book titled Losing Hope. Besides that, you can consider one of her best novels – Verity.

Angela Goethals is a talented narrator that has performed for this book. She has added dimensions to the complexity of the characters. We can understand the plotline better because of the amazing narration. Colleen takes us along on a ride of two young people with terrifying pasts who set off on a passionate journey to discern the lessons and joys of life. They learn about love, trust, and the healing power of truth. Would a person rather know the truth that makes them hopeless, or digest a lie that makes them feel better?

The Sky is a senior in high school and she comes across Dean Holder. He is a guy with a promiscuous reputation. Sky has remained a virgin despite her numerous flings in the past. From their first meeting, he not only captivates her but also terrifies her. However, both have secrets in the past that they want to remain in the past. The resulting interaction and attraction are bound to cause some trouble.

The book seems more like a teen or young adult romance novel with a simple and predictable storyline. It has some good twists and turns for the most part but gets boring a few times. It drags on for a long time, especially till the very end.
