Harley Merlin and the First Ritual is a paranormal romance and fantasy fiction novel authored by Bella Forrest. It serves as the 4th book of the Harley Merlin series. The audiobook is narrated by the capable and competent Amanda Ronconi. Her take on Harley and Alton is outstanding. She doesn’t lack in the portrayal of other characters either.
Harley knows that the grand plan of her enemy involves the five rituals to control Chaos. She’s got to figure out what’s going on before her enemy becomes a godlike Child of Chaos and punishes those who are deemed “unworthy”.
Many of the missing magicals are out there and Katherine has made it her mission to kill everyone. She will target anyone that Harley cares about.
To add insult to injury, one of the precious monsters of the Bestiary has also escaped. Harley suspects that Katherine has something to do with this. Harley has discovered a way to harness her power, however, and Katherine should be ready for her.
Then there’s Astrid, a human among magicals who is as ready as anyone to counter Katherine’s plans. However, our heroes need to be careful because betrayal is right around the corner.
Even though the premise is good and the story is nice, the connection with the characters is eroding. The story lacks the punch that makes it interesting. It isn’t fully developed and it is quite predictable.
