Gaunt’s Ghosts have traveled to various parts of the universe and they know all about the threats which can appear on the scene. The regiment is skilled in every art of warfare that’s why so far no one has been able to defeat them. It is said that the greatest enemy is the one that is present within the team or group. Author Dan Abnett has presented this type of issue in the story in this third part narrated by Toby Longworth. The Ghosts are sent to a planet where the climatic conditions are not very suitable thus fighting in that hostile atmosphere is not superb at all.
All of them seem to be in a troubled state but this is not due to the atmosphere rather something inside the squad is not alright. They are not working as a band, though they are one group apparently something has broken. This makes the situation an ideal time for the enemy to pounce on the team and get rid of them forever.
The enemies come from two different sides and the Ghosts think that they might not be able to defend themselves on this occasion. Soon in this time of hopelessness, the enemies who were present within the group started appearing. The head finally realizes the main cause of their failure which was present inside the group.
The author moves the story on the same line just as he did in First and Only and Traitor General. Troubles surround the heroes from all sides and they are left with no way to escape from this trouble. The only way out is through a deadly fight for which they have to be unified first.
