Gentleman Nine

Gentleman Nine is written by Penelope Ward. She is a bestselling author that has written other great books. You should check out Drunk Dial and Neighbor Dearest. This novel, however, is a contemporary romance one. It touches on many sensitive subjects but it is based on the friends-to-lovers theme.

Sebastian York and Andi Arndt are the narrators of this book. They have brought more out of the words than if you were solely reading it by yourself. Andi deserves a special mention here as she is great with the female characters.

Chandler, Roy, and Amber were friends since growing up. Chandler was the playboy, Roy the nerd, and Amber the beauty. Both wanted her but made a pact with each other to stay away. Then, when Chandler got to college, Roy broke off from the pact and got the girl. Amber didn’t even get to know Chandler’s feelings for her.

They stayed together for years, but then he broke her heart. All this while, Amber and Chandler had kept in touch. He came over to stay at her place for a while. He discovers that she has sworn off men because she is afraid of getting heartbroken again. In that pursuit, she has contacted a male escort company to fulfill her sexual desires. Chandler discovers this by logging on to her pc. When she goes to meet the escort, who does she see standing in front of her – Chandler.

This is a drama-free novel with mature characters. Sure, they go through problems, but they deal with them like adults. The book doesn’t drag on one topic too much. There is quite a lot of profanity in it but that is to be expected at this point. Overall, the book is sweet, real, and raw.
