Some deadly silver strands were falling from the sky as if it was raining. They devoured almost everything that came in their way, including plants, animals, and human beings. Nobody had any idea that such a horrible thing could be a reality. It has been more than a couple of centuries since Thread was believed to have fallen on Pern. No one who is alive could actually remember that very first onslaught.

There is absolutely no sign at all of anything in the entire world. There are only the dragons who were actually created for the sake of being used as a weapon against the Thread. They are still there in the world for the sake of reminding people that what has been in the history of the human beings.
