Controlling a story with many layers is not always easy for the author because there are several things that need proper attention. Giving details for everything is an uphill task but Richard Lee Byers has done it tremendously well. Narrator Rosalyn Landor has also used a very clear voice during the narration of this novel so there is no weakness of any kind in this beautiful little book.
War of the Spider Queen starts in an epic way in this part of the series in which the four dark elves are introduced for the first time. The four dark elves are not working together initially because they have their own goals to fulfill. Their enemies are different and they possess no connection with one another. Slowly as the things open up and the stance of different characters from both sides is revealed, the path of these elves is joined in a dramatic way.
They are left with no other option except to help each other and stand against the test of time together. The entire race of the dark elves comes under a threat and all of them can be eradicated if the enemy is not tackled in the best possible way. So the four dark elves join forces and stand against the test of time as heroes which they never wanted to be.
The creator of The Captive Flame and The Ruin has done it again here. The author has created characters who were not ideal for the mission at the beginning but slowly they get adjusted to their roles fabulously. Their friendship also strengthens when they realize that they have no way out if they are not working together.
