Steven Erikson has done a lot of work on fantasies over the years and the author has become quite skilled in the field now. Gardens of the Moon and Memories of Ice are true evidence of the brilliance of the author. Every portion of these books is well connected and well decorated with lofty and strong words too. In the second part of this series, the war is coming towards Malazan and it is not an ordinary war.
It is the war that has been prophesied long ago by the ancestors and predictors. One thing is clear there is no chance that this war can be stopped because it is fated upon the land. Running from fate is thus impossible however confronting it bravely could solve the thing in a better way. At the end of the war, there would be only one winner and he would be the sole survivor as well because the other side would perish forever.
Sha’ik and her army are preparing for the Whirlwind i.e a war which many people have prophesied in the past. The army aims to get its hands on Malazan. The war will of course result in a lot of bloodsheds after which new heroes will emerge and old legends will die.
In the end, no matter who wins one thing is for sure i.e the face of the land would not remain the same again. Ralph Lister i.e the narrator looked interested in the series at the first glance and he has proved it. Narration is done very keenly and with the full interest of the mind and soul.
