Christine Feehan talks about the dark world in a way that the audience starts liking the devils even that are present in the story. The lonely life of the devils makes us feel pity for them and we as listeners want them to get bound with a lifemate. Tariq happens to be an ancient one and he has been searching for a lifemate for centuries. A hard toil has resulted in nothingness so he decides to give up his search. Then one day Charlotte Vintage enters his club and suddenly arouses the deepest feelings of Tariq’s heart.
Charlotte, however, does not come to the club for the sake of fun rather she along with her friends tries to bring out the old vampires like Tariq out of their hidings. Charlotte’s family was killed by such a dark creature long ago and since then she wants to kill every one of them. Soon after one or two meetings Tariq and Charlotte find out that they have almost the same interests in life. This continuous conversation and meetings make them entangled in love.
Charlotte starts feeling that she can finally trust the devil whom she wanted to kill. The shadowy organizations were killing only vampires in Shadow Storm and Shadow Rider but in this book when Charlotte thinks of making a bond with Tariq both find themselves under serious threat.
Narration by Jim Frangione speeds up in those scenes when the lovers are running for their lives. The love scenes however are given the detail and laziness so that the feelings and emotions can be enjoyed by the listener.
