Zarek lost his soul long ago and he does not remember the cause that made him lose everything in a single night. For centuries he worked as a slave and then he transformed himself into a Dark Hunter. No matter which role he adopted he was not satisfied in the end and now he has become completely dejected by his state. He wants to know the reason because of which he was exiled so that he can get peace of mind in one way or the other. Love can heal his wounds but he has no soul and feelings for any female.
Even if he develops feelings of a female she would probably just hurt him even more. In this state, Zarek goes to Astrid i.e a woman who can tell the truth about anyone just after touching him. When she touches Zarek he feels strange because that touch made him feel the presence of a woman. Astrid just smiled and showed her love and affection for the poor soulless creature.
Shadow Fallen and Night Embrace are also with the same vibrant energy level which takes us on a long amazing journey. Zarek never hoped for love and when he received it from Astrid he was unable to believe that it was real. Sherrilyn Kenyon’s work is narrated by Fred Berman on this occasion.
The scenes of love are handled superbly by the narrator at every step. The rise of love and humanity in a soulless creature is the main strength of this book and it is on this thing the whole story revolves. The role of Astrid is like that of a pacifier and healer in the novel and she moves on with it.
