The narration is performed by Tatiana Sokolov. She did a good job for the most part. Sometimes, her voice seemed a bit robotic. The voice became uneven and lacked inflection at other times.
There is a tradition in Sweetwater that dictates every eligible female to assemble for the choosing ceremony every hundred years. There are two separate vampires with their territories. They pick brides from amongst the women. Once they pick a bride, there’s no going back.
Tanya couldn’t be more annoyed by the tradition. She thinks it’s outdated and sexist. If it wasn’t mandatory, she would be somewhere else for sure. Deep down, she knows a simple girl like her will never be picked.
She is quite surprised when King Brant sets his eyes on her and doesn’t budge. When he chooses her, her horror is beyond imagining. She doesn’t belong with the vampires, her place is in Sweetwater. Even though she starts to enjoy the strong clutches of the vampire, she wants to convince him to let her go. Otherwise, she might just fall in love.
The main character isn’t redeemable and readers don’t want to root for her. She seems like a selfish character with a lack of honorable characteristics. Nonetheless, the sex scenes were hot and the characters were funny enough to make it a worthwhile read.
