Finding devils is not difficult in the world of today because they are everywhere in the form of people who can do anything for their personal goals. Hardy Cates is one like that who has done everything in order to get what he has wished for in his life. He has not thought about the rules at any place because he wanted to rise higher and higher all the time.
In this way, he has made a lot of enemies but he does not care as he is not the kind who gets terrified or afraid of anyone. When he is committed to something, he gets the job done by hook or crook. There was a time when Harry fell in love but that time is long gone now and he has been leading a lonely life with a broken heart that doesn’t think of a relationship now.

Lisa Kleypas introduces the female character later in the novel in the form of Haven. She too is with a broken heart and is not looking for any kind of support in love. She eloped with a rich man in the past who just broke her heart so she thinks that all rich men are of the same category. Brittany Pressley narrates their emotions of Haven as she decides not to destroy her family name again.
Hardy Cates is the direct enemy of Haven’s family and when she starts developing feelings for him, she readily realizes that she is going on the wrong path once again. Like Devil in Spring the two characters have experienced love in the past and they don’t want to get tangled in another such relationship which can bring emotional pain for. Still, when the get indulged in it, they think that they have no other way except to embrace that love. Marrying Winterborne is close to this novel in the story and the characters are also somewhat similar.
