Being a witcher is not an easy task because whenever the land gets into any big mess it is the witcher the entire world turns to. The witcher also cannot say no to those whom he loves more than his life. Carefully Geralt has been keeping an eye on the peace between different creatures of the world who exist side by side in the same domain. Humans, elves, gnomes and dwarves have been living close to one another for a long time and though they cannot bear each other’s presence still they have tried to keep the peace intact.
Things have been slipping out of hands for the past many years and here Geralt thinks that the war cannot be stopped now. All these creatures i.e big and small get engaged in a war which results in bloodshed. The city streets get stained with the blood of the innocent once again.
Geralt instead of trying to solve this huge problem goes in search of the child who is destined to stop all of this madness. The child according to prophesy possess the power to stop the war and bring things back to normal. Geralt finally finds the girl but keeping her safe becomes a big issue for him.
Author Andrzej Sapkowski has given the witcher a glorious mission to fulfill but the poor guy is scared for the life of the young girl. The Lady of the Lake and The Time of Contempt had the action of the same level but there is more blood that can be seen in this novel. All the creatures get indulged in this big war and no one remains safe from the adverse effects. Narrating so many different characters was an uphill task by Peter Kenny but he managed in his simple way.
