Blood Kiss

Blood Kiss is the first book in the Black Dagger Legacy series. It is written by J.R. Ward. In the category of Best Paranormal Romance, she is the winner of the prestigious Romance Writers of America RITA award. You will certainly like other books from her such as Dark Lover and A Warm Heart in Winter. This romance novel tells the budding love story of a new couple and highlights the issues of older love birds.

Jim Frangione is the narrator of this book. He has changed some pronunciation from his other books which might distract fans of the voice actor. Other than that, he is solid in this role.

Paradise is living the lifestyle of an aristocratic female and she is tired of it. She is the blooded daughter of the king’s first advisor. She wants to join the Black Dagger Brotherhood. Thus, she will be able to defend herself, fight for herself, and think for herself.

The plan is fine and all until it becomes too hard to follow. The training is too hard for her. The other recruits seem more like adversaries than allies. There’s also something wrong with Butch O’Neal, the brother in charge. She also falls in love with her classmate – Craeg. He is a common civilian, someone that her father would never agree for her. She knows this is what she wants. However, she is tested by adversity in ways she never imagined.

This story focuses too much on Butch and Marissa and their problems. Only if more focus could have been on Craeg and Paradise, some of the problems could be solved. Still, if one can look past the distractions, it is a solid romance story.
