An English Bride in Scotland

An English Bride in Scotland is the first novel of the Highlander series authored by Lynsay Sands. It is a historical romance and is followed by To Marry a Scottish Laird in the series. Lynsay is a nationally bestselling author known for her Argeneau/Rogue Hunter vampire series. She has also contributed to numerous anthologies and historicals. If you want to read more from her, check out Highland Treasure.

Mary Jane Wells narrated this audiobook brilliantly. She did a great job with all the voices, even with the male characters.

Annabel never expected to marry and was about to take the veil and become a nun. Her mother suddenly arrived and forced her to go home. She wanted Annabel to marry the Scottish laird who was initially betrothed to her sister. She ran away and now, it is upon Annabel to take her place. However, she knows nothing about being a wife, running a household, or about the marriage bed.

When Ross MacKay sets his eyes on Annabel, he is charmed by his sweet and shy bride. He never expected to fall in love because she wasn’t the woman he intended to marry. Yet, he can’t help but admire her lush curves and offers his prayers of thanks. Soon, an enemy descends upon the Highlands and threatens his wife.
He is ready to move the ground to protect her. Even though she wasn’t the bride he had planned for, now, he is the only woman he desires.

This is a sweet and simple highlander story. There aren’t many historical references, thus the book is easy to understand for most. The characters are dynamic and interesting overall. However, the plot is free of complex themes and ideas.
