Jim Butcher in the first book of “Codex Alera” told the audience about the world of Alera where people have a relation with the elementals. People of the land can control the elements like the earth, fire, air, water and all sorts of metal present in the world. This gives them an extra edge on their enemies all the time but their enemies at the same time are not ordinary human beings. Land has been attacked by vicious demons and monsters in the past but no one has been able to take control of the land because of the first lord. First lord after taking control of the kingdom protected it with his life but now he is gone i.e perished in his effort to save the land. In his absence the old demons are coming back to the surface and there is no chance of survival for the people of the land unless another hero comes to their rescue.
Enemy who has come to the surface of Alera this time is stronger than their elemental powers thus chances of winning against him are very meek. Author Jim Butcher after praising the first lord of the kingdom tells us about his tragic death then the author starts telling us about Tavi. Tavi is the next messiah for the people of Alera. The boy may not be the strongest but he has one thing which the people of the land need i.e courage. Kate Reading highlights the fight scenes through her narration which were very different to Storm Front and Peace Talks. Magic is present in the series but it is not regularly used by the characters. Elemental powers are usually used at the time of crises or during a sudden need.
