A Storm of Swords

A Storm of Swords is the third novel of the global sensation A Song of Ice and Fire series. It is a fantasy book written by George R.R. Martin. It has won a plethora of awards and distinctions. It won the Locus Award in 2001 and the Geffen Award for Best Novel in 2002. If you want to know more about the world that Martin has created, make sure to check out book 1 and 2 titled A Game of Thrones and A Clash of Kings.

Roy Dotrice is somewhat satisfying as the narrator of this book. He sometimes appears to be mumbling, rendering him completely unintelligible. He has a heavy British accent that might put some people off. What he excels at is playing older men. Younger characters, however, are a bit hard to do. He’s also not the best when doing female characters. His Achilles heel is performing young female characters, which he has the most difficulty pulling off.

This novel starts with five contenders vying for power in the great kingdom. As events go by, situations change drastically. One contender dies mysteriously. Another falls out of favor. All of this happens as war wages, alliances are made and broken. Joffrey the brat is sitting on the throne, growing increasingly disturbed by the chaos. Lord Stannis has been defeated and is the victim of the Red Woman. Robb Start still rules in the North from Riverrun.

All the while, the rightful heir to the throne, in her mind at least, Daenerys Targaryen is on the other side of the continent. All these figures have a part to play in the wars to come, among others. But one thing is for sure, they’re not going to rest until the Seven Kingdoms have been unified.
