A Duke by Default

A Duke by Default is a contemporary romance novel. It is the second chapter of the Reluctant Royals novel series which is written by Alyssa Cole. She is an American author into writing contemporary romance, historical romance, and science fiction. Her books usually have a diverse cast of characters where one such novel is When No One Is Watching. Moreover, Once Ghosted, Twice Shy is quite a great title by the author.

Karen Chilton narrated this book. It was a disappointing performance mainly because of her Scottish accent which was quite disappointing.

Portia Hobbs is a perpetual hot mess and a socialite of New York. She is now extremely tired of always disappointing her friends, family, and herself even. In Scotland, an apprenticeship with a swordmaker is her great chance to employ her expertise and find out that what she is capable of. It turns out that she is good with aggravating her boss when she is not having any wrong fantasies about his burr from Scotland.

Tavish McKenzie is not the one who requires a spoiled and rich American to come and tell him how he should run his armory. This was true for him even if she is maddeningly good at this. He tried hard to rebuff his attraction for his apprentice.

Forging any piece of metal into the weapons is one thing but when desires go out of control, so is it possible for a commoner to find true love? It is not easy, but still possible.

It is a different and interesting story. However, it is the poor narration that made it a difficult listening experience for the audience.
