Apocalypse is sudden and they take away things from us in such quick succession that we fail to comprehend what we have actually lost. Sometimes it is pleasure and on other occasions, it is the life of the innocent humans that is taken away by such things. Apocalypse which T.L. Payne has talked about has done more harm than the expectations of the people.
First, the calamity took many lives, and then it turned the rest of the survivors into kind of monsters. Now no one is safe because everyone is fighting for survival like animals. People snatch each other’s belonging just for the sake of fun as the law and order are gone. Kevin Pierce intentionally used a sad tone in the narration of this first part to show the dullness that the author wanted to convey to the audience.
Maddie is at the airport when the lights go out forever and suddenly she sees herself standing in a different world which has barbarians in it. Thus she is not safe at all, she knows she has to run well this is what her father told her. Fear seems to be creeping into her mind and suddenly she encounters another girl who is quite young.
Maddie does not want to leave that little girl alone so she takes her on the journey as well. It is the journey towards survival just like the one seen in Uprising and No Way Out. Maddie’s father knew that she was a real fighter and he had full confidence in her. Though she gets afraid initially but this feeling remains for a very little time.
