The time of peace is vanishing from the kingdom of Illian and every hero will be thrown into the war once again. The people of the land have faced war before but it was fifteen years ago since then everyone has been enjoying peace. The Orcs were bringing havoc to the land in the past but they were dealt with an iron fist and they got eradicated on the battlefield.
From that day onward, the heroes thought that their job has finally ended and they can finally relax. Well, that was not the case at all because Dhenaheim has lost the war outside the walls of Illian, and now people of the place are coming for help. The refugees come for help and also with bad news as well i.e the enemy is coming to Illian now.
No one is safe and it is once again time for the heroes to stand up tall against the enemy and make their nation proud. However, all of this does not mean that the side of the heroes will win like always because, in the battle between good and evil, the good does not win all the time. Doran Heavybelly has some personal issues to deal with and Asher thinks that he should have left the offer of too many coins aside on this occasion.
Author Philip C. Quaintrell and narrator Steven Brand have kept the standard of A Clash of Fates and Rise of the Ranger alive in this novel. The dying of heroes is not a new thing but the heroes of Illian were not ready for this. Some think that they have become a bit rusty in the last fifteen years and they have to prove their worth once again.
