Witcher was defined in the first book by Andrzej Sapkowski as the one who has the power of magic and fighting ability at the same time. Some in the story think of the Witcher as a killing machine but he is not that kind of an evil character. Though he kills without mercy those who are killed by him are always related to the dark world. So it can be said that the witcher kills to protect the innocent people of his world.
Geralt i.e the witcher has fought bravely all the time but his battles have brought him in front of some of the deadliest creatures of the world. Creatures that existed only in the myths have become reality for him and he has to get rid of those mythical creatures before they turn him into a history item. Ciri is the next task which is given to Geralt and he has to protect this girl at any rate.
The girl is destined to change the future of her own will. No one knows that whether she will make the world a better place to live or she would add to its darkness. If she goes into the wrong hands then there is a threat that the Darkside will use her according to its own will. Geralt himself is dying because he is in a bad health after the lethal wound.
Thus it is trouble on all sides and only Ciri has the solution in her hands but she suddenly disappears. Peter Kenny has narrated this part in which Geralt is running after Ciri to save his life and the life of everyone else. The situation is more grieved than The Tower of Swallows and The Lady of the Lake also the pace of the story is increased by the author. Andrzej wanted to show urgency in the novel as the witcher is running to save his life too.
