The heartbroken condition forced Ceony to look for other interesting things in life so that she can forget the grief present in her mind. From a very early age she was interested in magic so she decided to learn this art and for this purpose, she went to the cottage of Emery Thane who was an expert in the field. The girl has graduated in the same field and she was looking for something related to metal ironically she was given an apprenticeship in paper magic and that was against her expectations.
Playing with the paper was one thing but devoting whole life to it was tough to digest initially and then Ceony started developing interest in it. Metals can only be molded but paper magic offers so much more than the girl has ever imagined. Creatures made of paper can be brought to life and also the stories printed on the piece of paper can become a part of reality. All this gives a creative power to the one who has the paper magic in his or her hands.
The field was interesting and Ceony was glad that she adopted it and then came the dangerous part. An evil force attacks on the cottage and steals Thane’s heart. Ceony is the only one who can get the job done in such a situation but she is not fully prepared against such evil.
Charlie N. Holmberg describes Ceony as a weak girl at the start, her experiences later give her the courage to stand against the devilish force. Story is close to Spellmaker and Spellbreaker but with more variety in characterization. Old and experienced narrator Amy McFadden has narrated the magic stuff perfectly for all of us so that we can understand and enjoy it at the same time.
