Royal Assassin is a fantasy novel and is the second novel in the Farseer Trilogy and Realms of the Elderlings. It is written by Robin Hobb. Robbin has created an amazing world that seems like a fairy tale and a real-world at the same time. Give the author’s other books a chance, like Assassin’s Quest and The Farseer: Assassin’s Apprentice.
The narrator of this book is Paul Boehmer. Paul has tried to narrate this book to the best of his abilities but is ultimately held back by a somewhat lacking main character. The protagonist has certain flaws that are by design, and thus it shows off in the narration.
Fitz is left a little bit more than a cripple after surviving his first mission as a king’s assassin. He vows to remain in the mountains as he relinquishes his oath to King Shrewd. As fate has it stored for him, he is driven back into the deadly matters of the royal family. Love and certain events of disastrous consequences pull him back to the court at Buckkeep.
The Red-Ship Raiders have renewed their attacks on the coasts and are leaving villages decimated to the ground. Treachery also rears its ugly head towards the kingdom, as the king starts becoming weaker and weaker. Thus, in this time of assault from within, Fitz takes reigns of the kingdom’s fate. He sees a young woman fending off the Raiders in his vision, a young woman that he deeply loves. This forces his hand, as now his emotions are involved. As he returns to court, he finds momentary happiness with his love. Still, his quest ahead will require his role in the kingdom’s salvation. He might have to pay the ultimate sacrifice.
