Playing for Keeps

Playing for Keeps is a romance novel written by Kendall Ryan. It is a story about hooking up with one’s friend’s younger sister. It is about the magic that follows; which the couple can’t get over and move on. Kendall is the author of books that have appeared over a hundred times on bestseller lists. You should check out other books such as The Stud Next Door and The Brother’s Roommate.

Narration can make or break an audiobook. Fortunately, Jason Clarke and Virginia Rose have hit this one out of the park. Jason Clarke is great for a character like Justin. Justin had decided that Elise would be off-limits for him since she was the sister of his teammate. This changed when the team had won their championship and drunkenness took over. He should have thought better, but his hockey stick didn’t get the message. Both can’t forget that night, but Elise thinks Justin doesn’t remotely care. He does, and he wants her bad. He has one chance to show her he is the right one for her. It won’t be easy, but our hero performs in clutch situations.

While there are a few positive aspects of this book, it is not without its flaws. It is quite a typical book where people have sex, then decide to date after having some conflict. The plot seems simple enough, as is the case with most books. But here, the characters are also quite immature and frustrating.

They are told as something but then do the opposite. The protagonist’s brother is told as very protective, but it didn’t remotely seem like that when it mattered. The male protagonist also has some character holes that don’t seem realistic.
