Virgin River

Virgin River is the first book in the series that goes by the same name. It is written by Robyn Carr. This is her critically acclaimed and fan-favorite series. She is eleven times the #1 New York Times Bestselling author. Give her other books a look titled Sunrise on Half Moon Bay and Never Too Late. This story is of a woman who wants something different in life. She gets it and lands in a pickle.

Therese Plummer is the narrator of this book. She is a first-class narrator. She goes very well with the words of the author. Her narration doesn’t impede in enhancing the experience of the audiobook. On the contrary, it greatly facilitates it.

Melinda Monroe decides to move to the mountain town of Virgin River. She wants to escape the heartaches of the past and re-energize her nursing career. Her hopes are soon squashed when she sees the condition of the place. The cabin is bad, the roads are horrible and the town doctor wants nothing to do with her.

She has almost given up in a matter of hours. She thinks she has made a huge mistake. She decides to leave town the next morning. However, an abandoned baby on a porch changes her decision. Then, there is Jack Sheridan, the former marine who might be the guy to make her smile again.

Robyn Carr has a style familiar to Nora Roberts. Fans of the latter should like this novel. It has its pros and cons. On one hand, it can get over-sentimental and nostalgic quickly. It is, however, light and fluffy. It doesn’t get too dark and depressing. The complex themes have been presented in a structured manner. Topics like rape, murder, addiction, infertility, and adultery have been seamlessly woven into themes of love, friendships, marriage, and a sense of community.
